  1. Gotta love this, Interboro shuts Chester out 38-0. Apparently this was not expected by this weeks predictions. Buc’s D is running hot and the offense even hotter. Aso missed in this eek’s prediction was the slim margin of victory AP had over Glen Mills 28-27. In week 6 Buc’s tatooed Glen Mills 20-0. Can’t wait for next weeks game!

    • Should be a good one! EA has earned its respect by hammering Malvern, and I want to see that happen for Interboro too.

While the Super 7 is subjective and I’m not knocking Matt, the Bucs are the one team I feel deserve to be higher and I have posted so for weeks. The fact that EA just handily beat Malvern means an early season loss to EA by the Bucs is not so bad at all – and they have certainly improved since then.

And, given what just happened to Springfield, one has to wonder how strong the CL really is?

I have posted before I believe all the leagues are down a bit this year as a whole based on the leagues not having many really good teams, but that does not mean the top teams in their respective Delco leagues – EA, Ridley and Interboro are not very good teams.

      • Oh, and did not mean to forget O’Hara, but the PCL is not so strong in Delco this year either – yet Ted Silary had O’Hara ranked ahead of EA this past week in the City Top 10. Since he also had a three loss O’Hara just ahead of Malvern, I guess an 8-0 EA who just hammered MP won’t be ranked ahead of 4-3 PCL O’Hara that was ahead of MP as Ted has to have his pecking order.

    • I had a 28-8 win. Three touchdowns is a fairly wide margin of victory.

Sometimes, it’s good not to embarrass struggling teams. I tend to stay away from 49-0 type of scores for that reason.

      • Glen Mills starts figuring out how to play football late in the season. I wasn’t surprised that it was close. In fact, Glen Mills could make districts with a win next week.

  2. Where does Springfield go now in Matt’s Super 7 next week, or better yet where does Interboro go? Or have they just been sentenced to 4 weeks at #7. C’mon now Matt, play nice.

    • I’m not making any promises about your Bucs, but I’ll say this: There will be major changes to the Super 7 next week.

      • Who cares about the Super 7? No offense to Matt, but you guys talk about the Super 7 like its the coachs’ poll in college football. It’s the opinion of a guy who covers delco football for a local paper; that’s all it is. His opinion is no more genuine than any of yours. He sees a lot of games? So do many of you; the only difference is you see them without taking notes. If you can be an expert in delco football and, for the sake or argument, Matt is one, then so am I, you, most, etc. Matt just happens to have a platform to share his opinions and because of that we think more highly of them as if they have any baring on anything real in the football world. It’s really a shame the Super 7 means that much to many of you. Give me (my team) a league, district, etc. title and put me at #7 on the list and see how much I complain

      • I’ve always posted this is for fun. I didn’t complain when my team was knocked behind Ridley for no real reason when both teams had one quality win.

If EA is somehow not #1 next week, I won’t complain – I’ll know from my observations of games (and both teams) that EA is #1 in my opinion.

Still, this is all in fun and people can get intense arguing any sports team up to the Eagles.

It’s an interesting diversion/hobby all for fun and that’s what I see people doing here for the Super 7.

No offense, but it sounds like you are taking the Super 7 too seriously.

      • Nope Andy. I’m not the one on this blog posting as if I were the end all, be all of delco football. “I’ll have my game review up later.” Who or why would anyone care about your review. You’ve spent more time dissecting Matt’s Super 7s them time Matt probably spends creating it. And I take it too seriously. I couldn’t care less who is #1-7; I want my team to win where it counts, not in the mind of some daily times writer, which amounts to a pat on the back. Last time I checked the title banners only reflect tangible titles. Nobody’s keeping track of how many weeks a team landed in the super 7; if you are that’s pathetic.

      • Like I said, just having fun.

If it’s not fun for you, don’t read the blog or post.

I do think this is fun and I do think I have been fair in giving all teams respect and their do when they play well and complimenting players on a variety of teams.

EA won a big game this week and are getting the attention right now. Last week Ridley/Springfield go the attention. GV/Ridley got a lot of attention.

Next week I hope the INT/AP games gets attention as well as any other important games.

I’m having fun with it. Like I said, these debates can get intense (just like with college ball or the Eagles) but it is all in good fun.

I think I have been objective and I have enjoyed blogging here.

I’d suggest that anybody who thinks this is a waste of time not waste their time here.

  3. My two cents on the Super 7, doesn’t mean much, but I’ll throw some reasoning in.
    1) EA- I’ve been a big doubter, they got that quality win, and Sfield’s loss to Haven shows how the CL is pretty bland this year.
    2) Ridley- They’re still Ridley , so I’ll give them a two spot.
    3) O’Hara- Hford’s non convincing win, just keeps red flags or ants showing up about their defense, think from an offensive standpoint, both teams are equal, with the edge in D to CO.
    4) Hford- Still putting wins on the board, like their skill guys, defense scares me and will lead to an early bounce from playoffs.
    5) Interboro- Interboro moves up here, playing solid ball, we’ll see how it translates in playoffs.
    6) GV- Another victory, I don’t feel strong about this team at all, but we’ll see once again in playoffs.
    7) Hav School- Convincing victory over Penn Charter, same margin as Ea pretty much, I can’t wait to see Galambos vs. EA’s defense. It’s going to be a great game. He is a difference maker, that MP lacked against Strouss, and I believe HS has a better D then MP.

Consideration: Bonner( 35 points against Wood, solid, as an O’Hara fan, I’m scared of a potential playoff matchup, Summers is right up there with the best WR’s in the area. Sfield- Jekyl and Hide type team, offense is very easy to stop, no way they’re in the 7 after this loss to Haven.

    • @John first, you seem to be the one taking this to seriously. This is exactly what it is intended to be – a great venue to promote high school football and for delco fans to have fun. As far as Matt’s opinion, he is the only true unbiased person and he doesn’t just use his eyes and opinions, but reports, opinions and advice from high school coaches, just like the All-Delco selection or does that not mean anything because it’s Matt’s final picks.

Great job Matt! Thanks for the coverage.

      • Now ya got me worried about HS. I don’t want to overlook GA, but EA/HS is one of those dames you throw out the records.

They are heated rivals, always play the last game of the year (winning the game makes your year even if you don’t win the I-A) and have been playing each other for 123 years, so you could say they have a feel for each other.

The game will either be for the I-A title outright or a share if HS does not beat MP next week.

However, not going to look ahead just yet. Still have GA next week.

      • Nope Tom. Go back and reread all the heated banter over why this team is ranked there and who should be where and notice how often i involved myself in comparison to the rest of you. This is all from one guy’s OPINION! No offense to Matt, but he’s not the authority on delco football or this person with such expertise that his opinion should be argued over so deeply.

Vote Chester the Barber in 2012

      • I agree Andy is the most unbiased objective poster to this blog. I enjoy his comments, evals, praise and the like. A real class act. Thanks Andy

      • Take O’Hara out. Throw random CL team in there Garnet Valley goes to four. Glad you Interboro brain surgeons want to jump on my Super 7 that I posted on Friday night.

  4. @Andy Agreed, HS vs. EA you throw everything out. That’s how it’s going to be. I watched the game last year, and it was Galambos all over the place, I’m not trying to toot his horn, but he can single handedly keep them in the game. The thing that I love about his game is his toughness, he’s not a main line kid, nor a local suburban area. He’s from Collingdale. The kid is a tough kid, and I’m not trying to call your kids soft, but I think he may have an edge. Honestly I wasn’t impressed by Malvern last night at all, there line stood straight up every time, both ways. It does hurt though seeing Gallen fly around on their field knowing he could be playing for us, but he’s a very skilled lax player, so it’s no big deal. Anyways good luck next week against GA, I’m just hoping we beat LC, and show up against Bonner hopefully.

    • @ Delco Fan – First want to say you have the best screen name for this blog. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

I was at HS/EA last year too. Galambos is a beast. And its not just because he is from Collingdale. He’s a great all-around athlete, bigtime D-1 recruit and at 6’2, 235 will be a dominant force in any game at LB/RB.

I don’t don’t doubt Galambos will get his yards. The concern for HS is can they stop EA’s spread. If it is a high scoring game EA wins by 14 or more. If HS can manage to keep the score throttled down it will be a great game.

Football, as you know, is also a team sport. PC has three bigtime D-1 recruits and HS just handled them. HS played better as a team. However, I don’t see many other teams that play better as a team on both sides of the ball and has the team chemistry while being solid at all positions like EA.

This is a very different EA team from last year – and especially on offense.

Strouss is Delco player of the year, IMO, (though Galambos and Dougherty and Durkin are deserving too – and I apologize if I left anyone else out). With QB being such a critical position, and EA having such a good one with their new spread offense, they certainly have the edge.

That being said, and having played in Haverford/EA Day football games, I know anything can happen in an extremely heated rivalry like this and as I have stated – I don’t count my eggs before they are hatched.

Should be a great game. First, EA has to get by GA. And good luck to O’Hara. I have posted positive things about them as I feel they are a good team. Silary over that the Daily News just gets me with some of his rankings, but he is entitled to his opinion.

      • In terms of all-around ability, Matt Galambos and Adam Strouss are the best players in the county.

Who will be Player of the Year is anyone’s guess right now. Lots of quality candidates.

In fact, selecting the All-Delco teams will be extremely difficult. There are a bevy of very, very good “athletes”, or players at the skill positions who are RBs, WRs, DBs or specialists. To name a few, Strouss, Hager, Strain, Crowley, Sydnor, Leyden … on and on.

      • Andy, thanks for the compliment. I just come on here, to give my opinion, just like you do and I value yours a TON. Your EA guys have proved me wrong. Adam Strouss is hands down POY. Ted will no doubt move you guys up there, he finally has a STRONG and convincing win to work with. I think some of their guys mentality and work ethic with lax translated over to football, it’s great to see them doing well. As per my Lions, you see my posts, it’s frustrating, I’m doing my best to get to the EA Haverford game. Good luck with the rest of the year.

      • Thanks, Delco Fan. I’ve been through a lot of tough years with EA so I know how it is. CO won’t be down for long. They have a great program and will be back.

      • All Delcos a fluke at some positions my senior year I handled both the all Delcos de ends driving them off the ball 10 yards a play lol…..somehow i make 2nd team o line and those kids made 1st prob cause i went to AP…..I go on to college start all 4 years at East Stroudsburg and make all conference and have a NFL tryout while i think every olinemen in 05 who made 1st team couldn’t even make a college team ……….make your picks for olinemen carefully to the well deserved not the hyped up

  5. Update from LC/OHara. Dan the Man blows a 21-0 lead, up 28-21 on his own 20 , calls for a fake punt, LC stops it. Seriously this playcalling is slowly killing me. LC is going to pull this one out

    • Yikes.
Gives us a final when you get a chance. We have Lansdale covering the game for us, so who knows if I can track down an update or not.

    • I’m completely disgusted with this program at this point. For blog purposes I cannot talk about it on here. If you would like to reach me and discuss it, I’m available. It’s the same stuff every week. His division 1 prospects that the papers salivate over, blowing coverages, dropping passes. Offensive line, is struggling. They’re a cocky group who are more concerned with their appearance and the attention, then handling their business. I feel stupid for believing that this was a quality team. Same stuff different year, one constant, the coach.

      • I don’t think they’re cocky at all. I’ve been on the sidelines for three games, and I see absolutely none of that.

ANyway, just be careful not to go over board with your frustration.

Outside of Carm Cervella and one other kid, they lack senior leadership. They’ll be better because of it come next year.

      • I know, Matt it’s just tough as an alum, Cervella and Moriconi are the leaders on that team, I apologize for slightly overboard comments. I know for a fact they overlooked this game, I have an inside connection with O’Hara that I’d like to keep anonymous. In years past, this would not happen. I expect drastic changes in the attitude surrounding the team this offseason. They have some nice pieces coming back, and a little bird told me that there is a nice chance that Blyden is back with them next year. As per next year, I would like to see Cummings, Kraiza, Cambell and Trainor to take charge of this team and right the ship. This loss is a learning point ultimately. I have no clue as to which team shows up next week.

    • He is a junior. If I am correct, the older brother was a football/ baseball guy last year for them, with his success on the diamond. From what I’ve been told he’s held his own and excelled consistently facing double teams and the likes of Galambos, Archdiacono. Doesn’t seem to get the credit he deserves because he eats blocks frees up the backers. Huge part of their defense, one of the more underrated defensive players in the area. I’m sure Andy knows how much a good strong side d end means for a team. Rob Parent was high on him when he saw them play Ryan down the shore. That’s all I know about him though.

      • Yea, that’s good news for Ohara. The only weakness I saw in him was that he didn’t necessarily close on the dive as well as he could yet, and ended up too far up field. Coaching will fix that. Kids got a lot of what people want in a D end with size and strength

      • O’Hara has a lot of good underclassmen coming back – Trainor and Darden to name just two. Not many seniors. I expected a little more form them this year, but next year should be a really good year if they get the chemistry and focus in place.

  6. I see that LC QB threw for almost 300yds that is a poor reflection on the secondary of Ohara, once again they continue to play 5-10yds off of the recievers and the yards gained after the catch is staggering that clearly points the finger at the secondary and a few players in the secondary that refuse to cover and make contact, why linebackers and lineman have to make the tackles 10yds down the field is clear that the secondary is not stepping up. I see that LC was able to gain 90yds in rushing thats an avg of 22-23yds a quarter..thats not bad,it’s evident that the Def. Line and Linebackers are doing their job.
The LC QB was running for his life the entire game from constant pressure from the Line and Llinebackers so why was he able to continually complete passes far down the field for big gains.
The ohara offense only showed up for the first half 2 crucial first down passes dropped in the 2nd half…..no excuse for that. I give the DEF. Line and linebackers a “thumbs Up”..they can’t sack the QB on every play. The secondary has cost Ohara 2 wins and they also played poorly against Wood and Lasalle,
you can’t fault Coach Algeo, that’s an individuals desire to play 4 quarters of ball and toughen up when they need to…..if they fix the secondary and come out with a different approach next week they can win…The offense needs to play 4 quarters of Football. The defense can’t be on the field for the entire 2nd half continuosly.

This is a good Ohara team

  7. As for the Trainor kid he is constantly doubled team and goes up against some of the best and biggest in the area and he consistently is in the backfield creating havoc(that’s y they double team him),it’s a shame the secondary can’t shut down the recievers he would have more sacks.
Putting him in a 4 point stance as big as he is….is stupid….he should be upright.
    D coordinator should see that

  8. Super 7 should be:
    1. Ridley
    2. EA
    3. Haverford High
    4. Garnet Valley
    5. Interboro
    6. Strath Haven
    7. Springfield

Throw records out the window those teams are playing the best right now in that order. O’Hara overrated once again. Haven struggled early but playing VERY well lately, if not for a last second miracle by Haverford they would have 3 straight really quality wins.

      • Academy Park hasn’t beaten anyone good. There’s a pretty good chance they’ll play Springfield or Haven in districts, don’t be too surprised when they lose.

      • Great Valley and Sun Valley are the only teams with winning records that they’ve beaten, and both of those teams are 5-4 so its not like those are even great wins!! If they beat Interboro next week then I’d consider them in the Super 7, but for now I think Haven and Springfield are better.

      • Just like last year when Springfield was suppose to ” handle AP ” in a year Springfield was maybe second or first in the central league last year, and AP pretty much embarrassed them. Don’t be surprised when AP makes another run.

      • Haha Finn big difference between Haven’s 5-4 and SunValley/Great Valley’s 5-4. 3 of Haven’s 4 losses came against top 15 teams in SEPA (Imhomtep, Ridley, Haverford). North Penn is 5-4, with your logic they must be on the same level as Sun Valley and Great Valley. But I hope Strath Haven plays AP in the playoffs. At least this argument actually has a chance to be settled !! (Unlike Ridley-EA).

I would, however, include AP over O’Hara in the Super 7.

    • I’m not 100% disagreeing with you, I’m not entirely sold on Springfield either. I just gave them the benefit of the doubt because of their win over Garnet Valley who I think is very good. It really could be a toss up for #7 between Springfield and Academy Park. However, I don’t think it would be a blowout like last year if they meet in the playoffs. I am arguing more toward the point that Strath Haven is a better team than AP, the Panthers are playing great lately.

      • Don’t forget Haveford School. 3-0 in Inter-Ac. It they beat Malven this week they are bottom tier of Super 7. If not, I’d still have them under consideration.

      • Wow u just contradicted yourself…….Haha u said both teams they beat are 5-4 so its not even a good win but have haven over AP at 5-4 I will never reply to this thread again

    • I also think AP should be in the Super 7 with a 8-1 record. The important thing for AP is they are ranked #2 this week in the AAA Playoff rankings. Friday’s Interboro / AP game will not only decide the DelVal title, and the #2 ranking, but could also secure home field advantage in a rematch in the playoffs.
