Episcopal Academy keeps moving on up, this week to the No. 2 spot ahead of Ridley. OK, so Ridley did absolutely nothing except WIN last week, so did they deserve to be bumped down a spot? That’s why it’s never easy. If I could have a 2a and 2b, I would.
Haverford High also is on the rise. The Fords are No. 4 while Cardinal O’Hara, following a blowout loss to La Salle, falls to No. 5. Strath Haven debuts at No. 7, bumping Academy Park out of the Super 7.
Until they lose, Garnet Valley will likely remain the top dog in Delaware County… unless, of course, Episcopal keeps dismantling teams.
1. Garnet Valley (3-0)
2. Episcopal Academy (3-0)
3. Ridley (3-0)
4. Haverford High (2-1)
5. Cardinal O’Hara (2-1)
6. Springfield (2-1)
7. Strath Haven (2-1)
In consideration: Academy Park, Interboro, Haverford School.
How does Springfield make the list over Interboro. Springfield lost to interboro in week one. Also note after the loss to episcopal academy Interboro has shown the ability to overcome adversity and take it to upper Moreland for the win. this decision should have been a tough one.
Springfield should not be on this list in my opinion. Have not been impressed at all.
EA’s ranking is a little high. Let’s not kid around. They’ve played three garbage teams. Hill School is not that impressive so I expect another blowout. Inter Ac play will be a true test.
Interboro is not garbage…must be a Ridley fan…EA is the real deal…I dont care who you play but if you don’t give up a POINT in 12 qtrs you must be doing something right…Interboro had a real bad night granted, but they bounced back and will be there in the end….as always…
I agree with the EA comment as well. They have been completely overrated this past couple weeks. Let me see them beat a tough team first.
Say what you want about EA, but they’re a neat story. They really came out of nowhere.
I don’t think I’m overrating them. From all reports, they seem like the real deal. Can they beat Ridley or GV? Who knows, but we’ll never find out.
Right now, they are playing better than anyone in the county, and that’s what matters (well, except for GV I guess).
If they end up losing three or four games in the Inter-Ac, I’ll look really stupid. I’m fine with that.
Yes, I agree they’re a neat story and have some solid athletes with Strouss,Strain and Hager. I just don’t think they have an established running game , but it’s great to see there program doing well. On another note what is up with O’Hara’s offense and special teams. They’ve consistently left their defense with a short field to defend. Is it a combination of inconsitent QB play and Line play? Interested for your input.
O’Hara is still finding its identity on offense. I think they’ve become predictable. Again, a team with very good athletes, but when you don’t have a true position it’s hard to get good results on a consistent basis. They’re desperately missing a power back, in my opinion. They’ll get it together eventually, I’m sure, but they’re clearly not as good as I thought they would be.
Sorry Jeff but you are badly mistaken if you can’t say Interboro is garbage. EA had an awesome team last year with almost all juniors which is why they are so good this year that was somewhat expected. If you can outscore any 3 teams 134-0 they have to be good, they can compete with almost any team in the county this year. Even the beloved Central-League teams who no one else in the county even comes close to. AP plays way to soft of a schedule to even be considered.
Listen, I’ll be honest: The county, as whole, is down this year. Delco isn’t Surburban One or Philly Catholic 4A.
Outside of Garnet and Ridley, there was a drop off coming into the season. But now EA has put itself on the map, so to speak. I like to believe they are legit and deserving of a top-3 ranking.
Must be an Interboro Fan lol ashame
HEY DELCO FAN
BUCS BUCS BUCS WE’LL SEE IN THE END. 12 YRS STRAIGHT BABY!!! WE JUST TOOK A LITTLE BREAK. KEEP WATCHING CHUMP
Actually, EA was not that good in football last year, but it was a team of underclassman. I think they only had three wins.
I see a similarity to the EA lacrosse team that was loaded with juniors the year before and only went .500 but finished 6th in the nation in the Laxpower computer ratings this past year.
The nationally ranked lacrosse team did not have many high level college recruits. Just a lot of steady, very good players. No superstars except perhaps the face-off specialist, but the worst players were very good. No weaknesses.
I see the same thing with the football team. No superstars, but solid at every position. No glaring weakness. The line may be on the small side, but the undefeated 1982 team that was top rated in SE PA had a small line,
Matt is right. The league schedule will tell. The IA is always tough. EA has had two undefeated seasons in football – 1929 under College Hall of Fame coach George Munger and 1982 under coach Jim Auch. I played on the ’82 team. This team does not have the superstars the ’82 team had, so I’m not sure undefeated is in the cards, but this is a pretty good team.
