Bonner head coach Tom Oropeza steps down

Underclassmen at Monsignor Bonner won’t have to worry about finding a new school for next year, but the football players will be getting used to a new coach.

Tom Oropeza stepped down as the Friars head football coach after five seasons. He compiled a 21-35 record in his time on Lansdowne Avenue but enjoyed one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent years last fall.

Oropeza guided the Friars to a 6-5 record, including a pair of wins over Cardinal O’Hara, the program’s only victories against its archrivals in the last decade. They lost in the Philadelphia Catholic League Class AAA final to eventual state champion Archbishop Wood.

Oropeza is a 1995 graduate of Bonner.

More details to come …

(Edited: Corrects Oropeza’s class year from 1994.)
